A traditional brick chimney does not meet the safety requirements and does not conform to the relevant regulations, according to which an acid-proof or heat-resisting ducts shall be installed, depending on the chimney type. Brick is subject to corrosion as a result of exposure to acids present in the smoke The brick warms up and cools down, which may lead to a formation of cracks and gaps allowing smoke and poisonous gases penetrate into the house. The plaster is not a guarantee of chimney tightness either.

Chimney and ventilation ducts are installed as self-supporting structures, separately from the other elements of a building. The ducts should be made according to the specific technical documentation developed for the building and to the relevant Polish standards. When the construction of the chimney is completed it should be subject to a final acceptance procedure as required by the Polish standard.
